U = I × R applies to the current and resistance under consideration and is useful for linear resistive loads and voltage drops.

Input values explained

Prąd
Enter the expected operating current, not a fuse rating. Motors and electronic power supplies may draw much higher starting or peak currents.
Resistance
Enter the effective electrical resistance in ohms. For a cable, clarify whether the value covers one conductor or the complete current path.

Example: 2 A through 12 ohms

A current of 2 A flows through a 12 Ω resistance.

U = 2 A × 12 Ω = 24 V

The voltage is 24 V and the component dissipates P = U × I = 48 W.

Know where the simple law applies

Temperature-dependent, inductive and capacitive components may not have a constant resistance. AC may require impedance instead.

Calculation limits
